Peters Streets To Be Inspected For Potentially Dangerous Sewer Lines

PETERS TOWNSHIP, PA - Prepare to see a lot of Columbia Gas trucks. Beginning Aug. 14, the company will be using a closed-circuit camera process on township streets to try to detect potentially dangerous cross-bores.

Cross-bores occur when sewer lines are not marked or not marked correctly, leaving the potential for natural gas lines to be bored through sewer lines. Should a sewer backup eventually develop, plumbers often are called to remove the blockage using a mechanical snake. This can damage the utility line and allow natural gas to seep into homes and buildings, creating an unsafe situation.

There will be no road closures or detours. Traffic cones and flaggers will be on site where necessary to direct traffic around work areas. No driveways will be blocked. Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

In the first two phases of the project, Columbia crews will examine the following township streets:
