Washington County Grandmother Arrested For Allegedly Growing Pot
Police found 25 marijuana plants and evidence of a "sophisticated" growing operation.

An allegedly green thumb has resulted in a Canonsburg grandmother being charged with growing marijuana in her home.
Canonsburg police recently arrested Nancy Schwaiger, 69, of Chestnut Street, after a police officer on patrol noticed a strong scent of marijuana coming from her house. After obtaining a search warrant, police found evidence of what they termed a “sophisticated” growing operation.
“What makes it so sophisticated (was) the equipment,” Canonsburg Police Chief Al Coghill told WPXI-TV. “(Marijuana) has to be grown at certain humidity levels. (There were) lots of exhausts, grow lights, humidifiers. A separate area of the house (was) set aside for the grow (operation).”

After confiscating 25 marijuana plants, police charged Schwaiger with possession with intent to deliver or manufacture marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and distributing a small amount of marijuana.
Coghill said Schwaiger wasn’t surprised when police arrived at the door.

“As soon as they served the warrant, she said she knew why there were there,” he said. “It was for the marijuana.”
Schwaiger’s lack of surprise might be attributable to the fact that this wasn’t her first marijuana-related brush with the law. According to police, she was arrested on similar charges in 2010.
