10 Philly High Schools Among Best In PA: U.S. News
Julia R. Masterman Secondary School and Central High School were among the top 10. See the schools' ranks here.
PHILADELPHIA — Ten Philadelphia high schools have been named among the best schools in Pennsylvania, with two in the top 10, according to a new ranking from U.S. News and World Report.
The top-ranked Pennsylvania school was Julia R. Masterman Secondary School, coming in at 18th overall.
Central High School was ranked third statewide and No. 229 nationwide.

Below are the other Philadelphia high schools on the list, their state ranking, and their national ranking:
- Academy at Palumbo — No. 24; No. 852
- Carver High School — No. 35; No. 1,037
- Girard Academic Music Program — No. 49; No. 1,456
- Hill Freedman World Academy — No. 58; No. 1,674
- Mast Community Charter School — No. 83; No. 2,250
- Franklin Towne Charter High School — No. 89; No. 2,325
- Parkway-Center City — No. 91; No. 2,338
- Girls High School — No. 97; No. 2,434
The top 600 included 15 schools from across Pennsylvania. The only other school to crack the top 50 other than Masterman was Downingtown STEM at No. 34; these were the only schools that cracked the top 200 in the national ranking.

The methodology used for this year's ranking focused on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates.
