29-Pound Cat Named Lasagna Up For Adoption In Philly

Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Team rescued Lasagna after she was abandoned and want to find her a home that will help her slim down.

PHILADELPHIA — A rather plump kitty was rescued in Philadelphia recently, and she needs a family who will help her drop some weight down.

Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Team rescued Lasagna, who was abandoned and now weighs 29-and-a-half pounds. For the record, the average house cat weighs about 8 to 10 pounds, according to WebMD's pet section.

She was abandoned on Sunday, left with someone who was waiting to adopt a cat outside the ACCT shelter.

According to the ACCT, the woman considered adopting Lasagna as she was here to adopt a cat but Lasagna was much larger than what she was looking for.

"She's very sweet and appears generally healthy, though her weight has made her stiff when she walks and also unable to properly groom herself," the ACCT told Patch. "Obese cats can develop a lot of significant health issues."

The ACCT says they are looking to pair her with a foster family or a forever home who will help her lose weight and be healthier.

While Lasagna is garnering a lot of interest in potential forever homes, the ACCT says they hope she will lead to adoptions of the more than 100 other cats in its shelter.

You can peruse all cats up for adoption at the ACCT here.

The ACCT is open walk in adoptions between 10 a.m. and noon daily and do adoptions outside those hours by appointments that are released each Monday.

Those who are not able to adopt Lasagna or other cats and dogs but still want to help the ACCT can donate online here. The ACCT had significant budget cuts of nearly $900,000
