Ground Wasps Found In Wissahickon Valley Park
The Friends of the Wissahickon group said park goers should avoid the area in which the wasp nest was found.
PHILADELPHIA – Ground wasps have been found in Wissahickon Valley Park recently, and the Friends of the Wissahickon group are warning park goers.
The group announced Aug. 4 that a ground wasp nest was found on the connector trail between Blue Bell and the Orange Trail.
Park goers are urged to avoid the area between Blue Bell Park and the Walnut Lane Bridge. Anyone who does chose to head through that part of the park should use caution.

According to Orkin.com, ground wasps can be identified by their two pairs of wings and a constriction between the wasp’s thorax and abdomen.
Social ground wasps do present a stinging hazard, according to Orkin.

In late July, Friends of the Wissahickon warned park goers to yellowjackets found near where the forest loop (red trail) meets the blue trail.
