Hazardous Weather Outlook In Eastern PA: Storms, Heavy Rain, Heat

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Thunderstorms with heavy rain are in the forecast for Tuesday, as a heat advisory remains in place through 8 p.m. Heat index values of 95 to 100 degrees are expected in the Philadelphia region.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance of thunderstorms across the Philadelphia region starting around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Some of the storms could produce small hail and heavy rain.

The threat of rain and storms continues throughout the week, with thunderstorms in the Wednesday and Thursday forecast. Showers could linger into Friday.

Conditions will cool down slightly Wednesday, with a high in the upper 80s predicted. By Friday, the high will be in the upper 60s.

The rain should clear by the weekend. Sunshine and temperatures in the 70s are in the Saturday forecast

For Tuesday, forecasters are warning to take precautions when being exposed to the heat. "The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity levels may result in heat-related health issues, especially for the elderly and for those with a pre-existing health condition," the heat advisory says.

The first heat wave of the summer has brought record-breaking heat to the Northeast. Newark, N.J. hit 97 degrees on Sunday, breaking a previous record for that day by 3 degrees. Highs in Philadelphia and the suburbs were in the low 90s Monday.

"Temperature departures will average 12 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit above normal across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic through Tuesday," said AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said.

Wednesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 8 and 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70.
