Layoffs Coming To Philadelphia International Airport: Reports

Somewhere between 600 and 1,000 wheelchair attendants, baggage handlers, and cabin cleaners will be laid off.

PHILADELPHIA — Hundreds of workers at the Philadelphia International Airport will be laid off during the new coronavirus outbreak, according to reports.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, somewhere between 600 and 1,000 workers — including wheelchair attendants, baggage handlers, and cabin cleaners — will be laid off from the airport.

Action News reports the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) said layoffs will take place Thursday through Monday.

The numbers reflect 50 to 80 percent of union members and are contracted with American Airlines subcontractors PrimeFlight Aviation and Prospect Airport Services, the Inquirer reports.
