Philadelphia's Shajan Named to SABA-NJ Executive Board

Philadelphia resident Chinsu Shajan was named to the executive board of the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey.

Stark & Stark attorney Chinsu Shajan, Esq., was appointed to the executive board of the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey as co-secretary, the firm announced. Shajan is a Philadelphia resident. Stark & Stark attorney Bhaveen R. Jani, Esq., was also named president of SABA-NJ, an association dedicated to the needs, concerns and interests of the South Asian community in New Jersey.

“Stark & Stark congratulates Bhaveen and Chinsu on their appointments to the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey’s 2021 Executive Board,” said Stark & Stark Managing Shareholder Michael G. Donahue. “We are honored for them to represent Stark & Stark on the board of this important association.”

In his role as president of SABA-NJ, Mr. Jani will lead the organization alongside the executive board and trustees, and serve as the liaison between other minority affinity, state and local bar associations. According to Mr. Jani, one of his goals is to discover synergies between SABA-NJ, the community and other organizations. He will also work with SABA-NJ to provide programming for its approximately 250 members including virtual CLEs and networking events.

Bhaveen Jani said, “Since assuming the SABA-NJ president-elect role five years ago, we’ve grown significantly and increased our overall visibility. Of course, we are in a very trying time right now with the pandemic, so it means that much more that the members have placed their trust and faith in me to lead.” He added, “Being president allows me to provide younger attorneys and future lawyers with the guidance and skills needed to be successful. I am very proud to serve as a leader in the New Jersey South Asian community.”

Ms. Shajan added, “I am very excited to take on this role to effect change within the organization and am eager to see what we as a Board can accomplish this year to make SABA-NJ even stronger.”

Both Mr. Jani and Ms. Shajan are members of Stark & Stark’s Accident & Personal Injury Group.

Mr. Jani also serves in various capacities for the NJ State Bar Association, NJ Association for Justice, American Association for Justice, Hunterdon County Bar Association and Mercer County Bar Association. He was previously named SABA-NJ’s Professional Lawyer of the Year, granted by the NJ Commission on Professionalism in the Law as well as named a NJ Super Lawyers Rising Star.

Ms. Shajan is a member of the American Association for Justice, NJ Association for Justice, NJ State Bar Association, Mercer County Bar Association and Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of NJ.
