PHILADELPHIA — The return to in-person learning for some students in the School District of Philadelphia has been delayed once again.

The announcement comes as the district and the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers work with a mediator to determine the exact plan for the phased return of students to district buildings.

PreKindergarten through second grade students were to return to school on Feb. 22, but that was pushed back after the union said buildings were not properly fit for the safety of students and staff.

Details on the phase reopening will be announced Monday.

"I truly appreciate the good faith effort that has been demonstrated by all parties involved throughout this mediation process," Mayor Jim Kenney said. "We are excited to be nearing the end of the process and look forward to providing our Philadelphia community with more certainty about the reopening of our public schools, starting first with our youngest learners."
