Coronavirus Closes 50+ Philly-Area Restaurants [UPDATED LIST]

PHILADELPHIA — The coronavirus has ravaged the region, the nation and the world in many ways. Hundreds of thousands of deaths, not being able to see family members, kids learning from home and widespread business closures are among the most obvious impacts from the virus.

In the business world, restaurants have been hit particularly hard, as statewide and local mandates limit what they can offer customers.

Indoor dining has been banned off and on throughout the pandemic. The ban first imposed in the spring was lifted eventually, only to be put back into place in the fall due to spiking coronavirus case counts.

The result is that dozens of area restaurants have closed for good.

Some hope is in the future, though, as Gov. Tom Wolf recently announced $145 million that will ideally be used to help bars and restaurants whose operations and profitability have been crippled by the pandemic, although gyms and entertainment venues also would be eligible for the money.
