SEPTA Lifting All Rider Capacity Limits June 1

PHILADELPHIA — SEPTA will lift all capacity limits on its vehicles next month, the transportation authority announced Monday.

According to SEPTA, pandemic-related limits to the number of riders allowed on all SEPTA vehicles will be removed Tuesday, June 1.

SEPTA said the decision comes as coronavirus cases drop, vaccinations increase, and indoor capacity restrictions have been eased on the local and state levels.

While capacity restrictions will be lifted, masks are be required on SEPTA vehicles.

"This decision is part of our ongoing efforts to support the region's recovery as businesses and government agencies announce return to office plans for employees, students resume in person classes, and capacity limits are eased for stores and restaurants," SEPTA said in its announcement.

SEPTA is also ensuring its vehicles are well-ventilated and upgrading its vehicles' air filters. SEPTA vehicles are also cleaned daily, with an intensive heavy cleaning every 10 days.

And, SEPTA riders can now check seat availability for buses using this online tool.

SEPTA said the feature will be expanded later to cover all modes of transportation, including the Market Frankford, Broad Street and Norristown Lines, Regional Rail and Trolleys.
