Tornado Warning In Delco, Montco, Philly

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located in Delaware County and is moving north.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A tornado watch has been issued through 4 p.m. Tuesday in five Eastern Pennsylvania counties, and a tornado warning — in which the threat is more imminent — is in place until 8 a.m. in parts of the region.

Portions of Montgomery County, Philadelphia and Delaware County are under the elevated warning through 8 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service, at 7:30 a.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Yeadon moving north at 35 mph.

Communities that could be impacted include Conshohocken, Narberth, East Lansdowne, Morris Park, Germantown, Bryn Mawr, Trout Lake, South Philadelphia, Radnor Township, Roxborough, Chestnut Hill, Drexel Hill, Darby Township, Broomall, Plymouth Meeting, King Of Prussia, Darby and Lansdowne.

The warning is in place along these highways:

  • Interstate 95 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 13 and 14.
  • Interstate 76 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 328 and 343, and near mile marker 346.
  • Interstate 476 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 8 and 18.

"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely," the weather service warned.

Those under the warning should take cover now, the weather service said. "Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris."
