Coronavirus Claims Lives Of WPXI-TV Anchor's In-Laws

David Johnson's father-in-law and mother-in-law died within hours of each other.

PITTSBURGH, PA - WPXI-TV anchor David Johnson's his father-in-law and mother-in-law have died of coronavirus. Johnson announced on Facebook that the parents of his wife, Nancy, succumbed to COVID-19 within hours of each other.

"My wonderful in-laws, Nancy's parents Gerald and Arline Polinsky, passed away peacefully last night in a hospital in Florida," he wrote.

"He contracted the virus almost two weeks ago--she got it only days ago. Hospital staff was able to put them in the same room--their beds, side by side. He succumbed before midnight, then only a couple of hours later, she left us.

"In a scene befitting a storytale ending, as his body was being moved out of their room, the nurses told us that she noticed and said, "Together, Jerry!"

"And then she was gone."

Jerry Polinky was 89. Arlene Polinsky was 86. They were married for 64 years.

Johnson's touching post regarding the deaths of his in-laws prompted the daughters of his neighbors to place lighted candles outside of his home. Johnson expressed his gratitude for the gesture on Facebook.
