SWISSVALE, PA — Those who were hoping the landmark Regent Square Theater eventually would reopen 15 months after its sudden closure can forget that thought. The building has been sold and its days as a movie theater are over.

The theater was purchased by the Concept Art Gallery next door to the theater and its lobby will become an art gallery, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

The Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media, the theater's former owner, abruptly closed it in November 2019 for financial reasons. Center officials said at the time the theater would remain closed while the center determined its future.
