Health Department Fines U.S. Steel For Pollution Violations

The Allegheny County Health Department has penalized U.S. Steel for pollution violations at the Clairton Coke Works.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has fined U.S. Steel $201,500 for air pollution control violations and permit violations that occurred during the first quarter of the year.

In accordance with the department's agreement reached with U.S. Steel in 2019, 90 percent of the penalties - $181,350 - will be paid to the Community Benefit Trust for impacted communities. The remaining 10 percent - $20,150 - will be paid to the Clean Air Fund.
