PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon.

Expect winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

  • Today: A chance of showers, mainly after 5 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 74. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 56. Breezy, with a south wind 8 to 13 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Friday: Showers likely before 8 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 60. Windy, with southwest wind 21 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
