Kennywood, Sandcastle Offering Vets Free Admission This Weekend

The West Mifflin amusement park and West Homestead water park also will offer extended operating hours.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Kennywood and its nearby sister water park Sandcastle will offer free admission to military service members during the 4th of July weekend. The special deal for all active duty and retired military members is good July 2-5.

Service members must have received an honorable discharge and have valid identification. They will be able to purchase as many as three discounted tickets for family and friends.

Non-military guests also will have discount ticket opportunities.

At Kennywood in West Mifflin, attendees can expect musical performances throughout the weekend, with the Wiener 100 dachshund races scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. Beginning July 4, Kennywood will add an additional hour of operations Sunday through Thursday with the West Mifflin amusement park closing at 8 p.m. Kennywood is open until 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Sandcastle in West Homestead is welcoming the return of its Lazy River. After extensive repairs due to off-season flooding of the Monongahela River, the Lazy River reopened June 29. Sandcastle also has extended its operating hours and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 2-5. Beginning July 9, Sandcastle will extend Friday operating hours to 6 p.m.
