Kennywood's Thomas Town: Sneak Preview

Further details emerge about the new Thomas the Tank Engine attraction.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Kennywood’s new Thomas Town area won’t debut when the amusement park opens for the year next month, but the $8.5 million is on track to open in June.

Park officials disclosed that Friday while providing an illustrative and photographic preview of what the repurposed Olde Kennywood Railroad ride featuring the popular children’s character Thomas the Tank Engine will offer. The photos are from Thomas Land, a similar attraction in Edaville, MA.

Journey With Thomas

The Thomas-themed train ride will take passengers along the back side of Kennywood, with wondrous views of the Monongahela River and the Edgar Thomson Works.


Harold’s Helicopter Tour

Kids can take control of their own Harold Helicopter and pilot him up and down as they spin around.

Flynn’s Fire Training

Junior firefighters shoot water to extinguish flames on the interactive ride.

Diesel Drivers

Kids get to climb aboard Diesel, Iron Bert and other engines for a fun ride.

The attraction also will feature Cranky's Drop Tower, a 45-foot tower ride.
