With Malkin Injured, Pittsburgh Penguins Make Major Trade

With Geno's return to the lineup uncertain, the Penguins acquired some help at his position.

PITTSBURGH, PA — New Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ron Hextall has made his first trade with the team, acquiring Los Angeles Kings winger Jeff Carter from the Los Angeles Kings. In exchange for Carter, the Penguins will send a 2022 conditional third-round pick and a 2023 conditional fourth-round pick to the Kings.

The Penguins announced the trade early on Monday.

The trade raises doubts about center Evgeni Malkin's return to the lineup this season. Malkin, who recently was injured, has been listed as week-to-week for returning to the ice.
