PA K9 Police Dog Dies In The Line Of Duty

A Pennsylvania K-9 officer died over the weekend while assisting officers during a burglary investigation.

JOHNSTOWN, PA — A K9 officer working for a police department near Pittsburgh died Sunday while assisting officers investigating a burglary in progress. K9 Officer Titan died after falling down an open elevator shaft on the fourth floor of a former Goodwill warehouse where the burglary was occurring.

Officer Titan had served with the police department in Johnstown, about 70 miles east of Pittsburgh, since 2014, according to the department's Facebook page. He was the partner of Officer Brian Stevens.

"K9 Officer Titan died honorably in the line of duty," interim police Chief Chad Miller said in a statement.

Police arrested five people in connection with the burglary.

Officer Titan is receiving a police escort to a Johnstown funeral home on Monday, the department announced.

Titan is the second K9 officer to die in the line of duty in the past week. A Tennessee K-9 Officer named Sjaak was shot to death last week.
