Patch Poll: Should Ross Park Mall Have Security Cameras?
The question became relevant after last weekend 's shooing at the mall. South Hills Village, another popular mall, also lacks cameras.
ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA — The question of whether Ross Park Mall should install security cameras has been floating around for quite awhile. Law enforcement officials believe they are necessary, but mall owner Simon Properties has not acted on repeated requests to do so.
Pressure could mount to put them in after gunfire erupted last weekend during an altercation between about a half-dozen people. No one was injured. Two 17-year olds were taken into custody and face numerous gun charges.
After the incident, Ross police Lt. Brian Kohlhepp slammed Simon's continued resistance to the cameras idea. Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala, as was Bethel Park police chief Timothy O'Connor, whose force covers Simon's South Hills Village.
