PNC Park opened in 2001, as the Pirates moved from Three Rivers Stadium to the new facility. In 1998, when the stadium was under construction, PNC agreed to pay the Pirates $1.5 million annually through the 2020 season for the new ballpark's naming rights.

The Steelers also moved to a new locale in 2001, and Heinz purchased those stadium naming rights for 20 years. The Steelers and Kraft Heinz announced a one-year extension of the naming rights in January.
