Pittsburgh-Area School District Closing For 2 Weeks Due To Virus

The coronavirus has prompted a Pittsburgh-area school district to close all of its buildings for at least the next two weeks.

OHIO TOWNSHIP, PA — The coronavirus outbreak has prompted the Avonworth School District in Pittsburgh's northern suburbs to close at least through Nov. 24. All athletics and activities have been canceled as well.

District officials said the decision was based in part on the current coronavirus positivity rates in its municipalities:

  • Emsworth: 18 percent.
  • Ohio Township: 16 percent.
  • Kilbuck Township: 14 percent.
  • Ben Avon: 4 percent
  • Ben Avon Heights: 0 percent.

The district currently has five active cases, according to a post on the Avonworth website.
