Pittsburgh Area, Southwestern PA At Risk For Severe Storms
The National Weather Service has increased the chances for strong to severe storms developing in the region on Wednesday.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has updated its severe weather outlook for Wednesday afternoon and early evening, upping the odds for potent thunderstorms in northern Allegheny and southern Butler counties.
A slight risk of severe storms in exist in Allegheny County municipalities exists in municipalities such as Marshall, Pine, Richland, West Deer, Fawn, Frazer and Harrison townships. The remainder of the county has a marginal risk of severe storms developing.
Cranberry and all other Butler County municipalities are in the slight risk category.

The primary time for storms to develop is between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., according to the weather service. Strong wind gusts and hail are possible.
The odds of storms developing vary by forecasting organization. The weather service and State College-based AccuWeather put the chance of precipitation at 40 percent this afternoon and early evening. The Weather Channel predicts a 90 percent chance.
