Pittsburgh Bridge Closure To Again Force Detours For Thousands

The inbound lanes of a heavily traveled Pittsburgh bridge will close this weekend. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA ? Ongoing work on the Glenwood Bridge will force the span's closure to northbound/inbound traffic from Sunday at 6 p.m. through 6 p.m. on Friday. That will again force detours for the 19,000 motorists who use the bridge daily.

The closure is necessary for crews to safely replace an expansion dam as part of the ongoing $4.4 million Glenwood Bridge preservation project.

Regular vehicle northbound traffic will be detoured using East Carson Street (Route 837), Hot Metal Street, the Hot Metal Street Bridge. Southbound/outbound traffic will be allowed on the Glenwood Bridge using one lane.

Since the Glenwood Bridge preservation project began in March, the bridge has been reduced to two lanes ? one in each direction. That traffic restriction will return following the northbound closure.

The project, expected to be completed in November, includes steel, deck, sidewalk, drainage, and approach pavement repairs;replacement of expansion dams, painting, cleaning and sealing of
concrete, as well as scour and erosion remediation.
