Pittsburgh Pirates Fans Amazingly Are Relatively Sober: Study
A new analysis shows that fans of one of baseball's most frustrating franchises don't drink nearly as often as one might imagine.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Pirates haven't won a World Series 42 years. Their last division title occurred in 1992. They were the worst team in baseball last year, and most predictions have them losing 100 games this season.
If those aren't reasons to drink for Bucco fans, what are?
Surprisingly, though, a new study has concluded that Pirates fans are relative lightweights when it comes to alcohol. NJ Online Gambling recently surveyed 2,631 baseball fans over the age of 21 on their drinking habits and discovered the following:

- The Pirates have the 19th booziest fans in baseball averaging 3.0 drinks per game and an average spend of $34.
- The fans who imbibe the most root for the Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres.
- The Pirates rank 22nd for the biggest pre-game drinkers, with 54 percent of Pirates fans admitting to drinking before the game starts.
- The Pirates rank 11th for biggest lightweight drinkers with 35 percent of Pirates fans admitting to having missed some or all of a game due to drinking too much.
- Five percent of Pirates fans reported drinking more when the team is playing poorly which ranked 28th among baseball franchises.
What does it all mean? Despite the fact that the Pirates appear destined to be among baseball's worst teams in 2021, fans of the team will not be drunkards - unless they are drinking while watching the team at home.
