Prominent Pittsburgh Restaurateur Dies

The man behind some of the city's most popular restaurants for nearly two decades has died.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Yves Carreau, the founder of the Big Y Group of restaurants that helped shape the Downtown dining scene for more than a decade, has died of renal cancer. He was 60.

Mr. Carreau perhaps was best known for being the owner of the Sonoma Grille on the ground level of the Marriott Hotel on Penn Avenue from 2004 to 2017. He retooled Sonoma as Le Lyonnias for a year before selling the restaurant in 2018.

The Big Y Group also owned several other Downtown restaurants, including NOLA on the Square, Seviche, Perle and Poros. Mr. Cauureau closed Seviche in 2017, and sold his other restaurants a year later.
