Several Pittsburgh Hospitals Rank Among PA's Best: Newsweek

PENNSYLVANIA — Fifteen Pennsylvania hospitals were ranked among the best in America by Newsweek, including two from the Pittsburgh area.
The magazine's "World's Best Hospitals" list for 2021 ranked the top hospitals around the world, including in the United States. It's the third year Newsweek has published the list, for which it partnered with the data firm Statista.
Ten Pennsylvania hospitals ranked among the top 200 in the U.S., while another five hospitals were included in the overall list but did not rank among the top 200.

Here's how Pennsylvania hospitals were ranked on the list:
- Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - Penn Presbyterian, Philadelphia, No. 16
- UPMC Presbyterian & Shadyside, Pittsburgh, No. 55
- Jefferson Health - Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Philadelphia, No. 72
- Penn State Health - Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, No. 77
- Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital, West Chester, No. 85
- Reading Hospital, Reading, No. 92
- St. Luke's Hospital Bethlehem, Bethlehem, No. 102
- Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, No. 142
- Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster, No. 149
- Lankenau Medical Center, Wynnewood, No. 150
- Main Line Hospital, Paoli, No. 253
- Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College, No. 256
- Main Line Hospital - Bryn Mawr Campus, Bryn Mawr, No. 279

In its methodology, Newsweek explained that it looked at three data sources to compile the rankings: recommendations from medical experts, results from patient surveys and medical KPIs on hospitals.

These are the top 10 hospitals in the United States, according to Newsweek.
- Mayo Clinic - Rochester in Rochester, MN
- Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio
- Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston
- The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore
- Stanford Health Care - Stanford Hospital in Stanford, CA
- Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles
- The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY
- University of Michigan Hospitals - Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, MI
- Brigham And Women's Hospital in Boston
- New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell in New York, NY
Hospitals in the U.S. were also recognized for infection prevention if they performed above the national average based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
