Storm Watch Issued For Pittsburgh: Wind, Hail, Tornado Possible
It appears southwestern PA could have a repeat of Sunday's ferocious storms.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania until 6 p.m. today.
The weather service warns that storms expected to move across the region this afternoon could pack winds of up to 70 mph and produce hail the size of ping pong balls. A tornado developing out of these storms can't be ruled out, according to the weather service.
New storms would be bad news for Duquesne Light workers still laboring to restore power to 10,000 Allegheny County customers who lost it during Sunday's storm. More than half of the outages - 5,524 - were in Ross.
