UPMC Children's Named One Of Nation's Top Pediatric Hospitals

PITTSBURGH, PA — UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh has been ranked as the country's ninth-best pediatric hospital in the 2021-22 U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll of America’s Best Children’s Hospitals.

The best children’s hospitals rankings feature the top pediatric hospitals, out of 250 nationally, who are ranked in each of 10 specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery,
orthopaedics, pulmonology, and urology. Hospitals ranked high in three or more specialties made the honor roll.

UPMC Children’s Hospital was ranked for excellence in all pediatric specialty areas and is among the top 10n again in three specialties: cardiology and heart surgery (2nd); diabetes and endocrinology (7th) and gastroenterology and gastroenterology surgery (9th)

patients of all ages."

According to UMPC, Children’s is expanding its pediatric specialties and subspecialities throughout the region, including:

• UPMC Harrisburg’s pediatric in-patient unit, which brings the nationally ranked care from UPMC Children’s in Pittsburgh to families in southcentral Pennsylvania.

• UPMC Children’s Emergency Department Affiliation program, which provides more regional hospitals with around-the-clock access to board-certified emergency medicine physicians at UPMC Children’s in Pittsburgh through emergency department-to-emergency department consultations. The affiliation program is rapidly growing with additional locations coming soon.

• UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics (UPMC CCP) recent expansion and growth efforts have allowed its primary, behavioral health and subspecialty care to reach more families and communities throughout the region. Overall, UPMC CCP will reach 54 practices by the summer of 2021, including nine Express Care locations.

The 2021-22 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings were released online Tuesday and will be published in the “Best Hospitals 2022” guidebook, available inSeptember. The rankings were introduced in 2007 to help families of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses find the best medical care available.
