U.S. Open 2016 Live Stream: Weather Suspends Round 1, Leaderboard, TV Schedule

The U.S. Open — on of golf's four major championships — will be played at the Oakmont Country Club for the ninth time.

Oakmont, PA — The best golfers in the world teed off in Oakmont on Thursday for the first round of the 2016 U.S. Open.

But Mother Nature had different plans. Only nine golfers were able to finish their rounds Thursday before play was suspended until Friday.

The U.S. Open is one of golf's four major championships, which means that it's one of the biggest events of the year for gold fans nationwide. And if the tournament is anything like last year's event, it will be must-watch action.

In the 2015 U.S. Open — held at Chambers Bay in Washington — several golfers had a chance to win, but Jordan Spieth walked away with the trophy. But the defining moment of the tournament might not have been Spieth's win, but how Dusting Johnson — the world no. 6 — lost.

After hitting two incredible shots on the last hole of the tournament, Johnson three-putted to finish one stroke behind Spieth.

World No. 1 Jason Day also had a shot at the title last year, even though he battled spells of vertigo all week.

The Venue

This years marks the ninth time the course will host the U.S. Open, previously hosting the event in 1927, 1935, 1953, 1962, 1973, 1983, 1994 and 2007. The course is known for its high level of difficulty, notably for its punishing greens.

Going to watch the golfers in person? Unfortunately, the USGA only lists 2017 U.S. Open tickets on its website, but luckily ticket packages are still available on resale sites such as Stubhub.

Parking

If you've already got your tickets to the U.S. Open, you're going to need to know how to get to the event. These big golf tournaments can affect traffic, and some roads may be closed. In fact, you won't actually be able to drive to the country club  but will have to drive to one of two large parking lots.

There's the Blue Lot, located at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, and there's the Red Lot, located at Hartwood Acres. Complimentary shuttle services will take spectators from the lots to the golf course.
