Plum Delays Start Of School Year

The school district will approve an updated school calendar in August.

PLUM, PA — Plum School District is delaying the start of the school year until Sept. 2. An updated school calendar will be approved at an August school board meeting.

Superintendent Brendan Hyland said in a message on the district website that the delay will enable the district to do the following:

Continue to monitor the spread of the coronavirus in the area.

Permit families to enjoy previously planned vacations without the fear of adhering to the Pennsylvania Health Department’s recommended 14 day quarantine period for those traveling to identified hot spots.

Provide the administrative team and professional staff more time to plan and react to the evolving virus situation.

"Unfortunately, we have not received responses from 500 families to our survey and this is complicating our ability to plan appropriately," Hyland said. "Therefore, we will be taking the time to reach out to these families to get a better understanding of their intentions this week. Families who do not respond to our outreach efforts will be added to the in-person instruction option for the upcoming school year."
