Plum School Director Quitting After Anti-Muslim Facebook Post

School board Brian Wisniewski is stepping down after being criticized for the post.

PLUM, PA -A Plum School District director admonished for anti-Muslim sentiments posted on his personal Facebook page is resigning.

The agenda for a special school board meeting scheduled for Saturday has school directors voting to accept Brian Wisniewski’s resignation. The board then will vote to advertise for the opening for at least five business days before voting to fill it.

Wisniewski came under fire for the post, since taken down, of a meme showing a man standing in front of an American flag holding a rifle. The caption states "Does it worry anybody that we have devout Muslims in Congress that have unlimited access to our top secret government documents?"

The post was an apparent reference to newly elected congresswomen Rashida Talib of Michigan and Tilhan Omar of Minnesota.

"We welcome this reported resignation and hope it sends the message that bigotry of any type will not be accepted in our state’s schools,” said Council for American-Islamic Relations-Pittsburgh program director Zohra Lasania.

Earlier this week, district administrators labeled the post inappropriate.

"This District is not affiliated with this posting in any way," a district release stated earlier this week. "We vigorously disagree with and condemn the content of the post, and we do so in the strongest possible terms."

Wisniewski is in the second year of his four-year term.
