6-Mile Trail Extension Planned In Montgomery County
Montgomery County's already formidable network of running, walking, and biking trails is continuing to expand.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Montgomery County's ample green spaces and trail networks are continuing to expand.
The Cross County Trail, which currently runs for three miles from the Schuylkill River Trail in Conshohocken to Germantown Pike in Plymouth Meeting, is getting an extension. The county has embarked on a feasibility study for the trail with a consultancy firm.
The new 6-mile segment will run from Welsh Road in Upper Dublin Township to Pennypack Trail, impacting numerous other municipalities including Upper Moreland, Horsham, Hatboro, and Bryn Athyn. It will also provide a gateway to the Power Line Trail.

There are plans for the trail to eventually cover some 17.5 miles across Montgomery County. In 2018, the state provided a $200,00 grant to build a mile-long stretch of the trail on Erdenheim Farm, narrowing the gap between Erdenheim and the rest of the Cross County Trail. From Erdeheim, trail users can proceed north on the Wissahickon Green Ribbon Trail to North Wales, or southeast to Forbidden Drive in Philadelphia.
A public meeting to introduce the project is scheduled for April 22 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Register to attend online here.
