Art from Montgomery County High Schoolers on Display at Annual Show

The 28th annual Touch the Future opens Feb. 21 at Arcadia University in Glenside.

The 28th annual Touch the Future art show, which features original work by students from 27 high schools in Bucks and Montgomery counties, will open to the public Feb. 21 Arcadia University in Glenside.

This year, 280 works of art from 360 student submissions will be represented in the following categories: printmaking, digital photography, traditional silver print, black and white and color drawing, jewelry & metals, fiber crafts, 2-D mixed media & design, 3-D functional, 3-D single medium sculpture, 3-D mixed media sculpture, digital imaging/computer graphics, and acrylic, oil, and watercolor painting.

The art show, inspired by teacher and astronaut Christa McAuliffe who died aboard the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger, the show honors her with its title inspired by her motto, “I touch the future… I teach.”

The exhibition is sponsored by the Mideastern Region of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Council for the Advancement of Public Schools.

“While facing increasing budgetary constraints, the Touch the Future Art Show is an example of how our public school teachers find ways to bring forth the talents of each student whether in math and science or art and music,” said Jim Sando, president of the PSEA Mideastern region. “The students of our public schools reveal their excellence and extraordinary talents each year, and the exhibition is an opportunity for the communities to see their achievements.”

The show is open through March 19.

The exhibition will be juried by Lindsey Stevenson, assistant director of admissions, Tyler School of Art, Temple University.

The event is chaired by art teachers Lynne Pribis of Upper Dublin High School, Connie Berger of Cheltenham High School and Kelly Washington of Pennsbury High School.

“We are so proud to provide our students with this opportunity to showcase their works and remarkable talents,” said Pribis. “The pride of education is always in the success of our students.”

Gallery hours are as follows: Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
