Black Bear Sightings In Springfield Township

After being spotted in Bucks County over the weekend, a black bear was seen in parts of Springfield Township.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — After being spotted in Bucks County over the weekend, a black bear was seen in parts of Springfield Township this week.

Sightings were both in Oreland and Wyndmoor, officials said.

The Pennsylvaia Game Commission is searching for the bear and hopes to relocate it to a more suitable habitat, police said.

Residents are reminded to never approach a bear, and to remove pet food or outdoor bird feeders that would be likely to lure the bear.

Though sightings are less common in heavily populated areas, black bears are native to Pennsylvania and are active in the summers. There have been sightings in the warmer months in the Philadelphia area several times in recent years.
