Dangerous Conshohocken Intersections Get Major Safety Funding

Conshohocken has received $348,000 to improve safety at "troublesome" intersections on Fayette Street.

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — Conshohocken has received $348,000 to improve safety at "troublesome" intersections on Fayette Street.

The state grant will fund the installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacons both on 4th Avenue and 7th Avenue, State Rep. Mary Jo Daley's office announced.

In Jan. 2018, 80-year-old Bruce Collins was struck and killed at 4th Avenue and Fayette Street. Vehicular homicide charges were filed, but the driver was found not guilty last month.

“My appreciation to Governor Wolf and the PennDOT officials who helped secure this funding for Conshohocken,” Daley said in a statement. "Anytime we can improve pedestrian and traffic safety, particularly at dangerous locations like this, that’s great news for our community."

The beacons aim to reduce vehicle crashes into pedestrians by increasing driver awareness, authorities said.

The money comes from PennDOT's Automated Red Light Enforcement program, which seeks to fund areas where data shows that red-light running is common or has become a safety hazard.
