PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, PA — K-9 Nick, who served alongside Plymouth Township Officer Brad Fox, has passed away, the police department has confirmed.

On the fateful evening in 2012 that Fox gave his life in the line of duty, Nick was also shot, and he went on to live alongside Fox's wife, Lynsay, and their children.

"We are saddened at Nick's passing, but remain ever grateful that he was able to act as a friend, comforter and protector for Brad's Family," Plymouth Township police said in making the announcement. "We wish you everlasting peace."

Nick "remained by Brad's side" after they had both been shot, according to police.

Nick was just a young puppy, fresh out of the Philadelphia Canine Police Academy with Fox, when the incident occurred.

After Nick's recovery from the shooting, officials worked hard to make sure that the brave pup could retire and live with Fox's family. Plymouth Township held a ceremony to commemorate his service.

The legacy of heroism left behind by Fox is evident in the numerous events put on by the Officer Brad Fox Foundation, as well as the memorial to his life on the Schuylkill River Trail, often freshly adorned with flowers year-round.
