More Sinkholes Found, Butler Pike To Remain Closed Till 2021
Numerous new sinkholes in the area "make it unsafe to reopen the road anytime in the immediate future," officials said.

PLYMOUTH-WHITEMARSH, PA — Butler Pike will remain closed through at least early 2021 after numerous new sinkholes were found in the area, authorities announced.
Officials said that a full design plan to repair the impacted area will take around 18 months, at which point construction work can begin.
Butler Pike has been shut down between Flourtown Road and Germantown Pike since Aug. 2018, when a large sinkhole was found in the area.

That original sinkhole was near an active Norfolk Southern railroad bridge that passes over the road. as well as a high pressure natural gas transmission line owned by Texas Eastern Gas Pipeline. Crews worked immediately stabilize the roadway and utility pathways and there was hope the road could be opened this month, but further analysis found more sinkholes developing nearby.
Montgomery County made the decision in consultation with Whitemarsh and Plymouth townships, along with representatives from Norfolk Southern, Texas Eastern Gas Pipeline, PECO, Verizon, and the Whitemarsh Authority.
