Plymouth Honors Police Officer of the Year
The Plymouth Township Council approved a resolution to recognize the 2019 Police Officer of the Year.

The Plymouth Township Council recognized the police department’s top cop for 2019 during its meeting Monday.
The Plymouth Township Police Department supervisory staff selected Officer Andrew Monaghan as the 2019 Police Officer of the Year for his ability to perform “in the highest standard of the law enforcement profession.”
A Delaware Valley College graduate who majored in criminal justice, Officer Monaghan joined the Plymouth Township Police Department in 2013, following his service in the Marine Corps.

He works in the department’s patrol division. In addition to his normal patrol activities, Officer Monaghan is a member of the Motorcycle Unit, an armorer and a Field Training Officer tasked with the responsibility of training newly hired officers.
Officers nominated for Officer of the Year exemplify an excellence for meritorious service to the Plymouth Township Community. The officer shall have displayed a dedication to public service through exemplary job performance. Officers must display a commitment to continually advance their knowledge base and improve their existing skill set, display compassion and empathy to those they interact with, and display professionalism in all their duties while maintaining the utmost ethical standards.

After reading the resolution to honor Officer Monaghan, Councilman Marty Higgins said, “we’re all very proud of you.”
Since the council meeting was held via Zoom instead of in-person, the council was not able to formally acknowledge Officer Monaghan.
Police Chief John Myrsiades, who spoke during the online meeting, thanked his officers for their dedication and service to the community.
“We honor the valor, service and dedication of Plymouth’s Police Officers; calling upon all citizens in this community to show their sincere appreciation for all the township’s officers,” Chief Myrsiades said. “We acknowledge Officer Andrew Monaghan as Plymouth Township’s 2019 Police Officer of the Year, commending his diligent and valuable service.”
In other business, the Township Council voted unanimously to recognize the week of May 10 through May 17 as National Police Week.
