Archbishop Carroll Named Seat Belt Challenge Winners

The school showed 16 percent improvement in seat belt usage between the fall and spring.

Students at Archibishop Carroll High School showed the greatest improvement of seat belt usage between the fall and spring semesters, earning the school first place in Delaware County Transportation Management Association’s annual High School Seat Belt Challenge.

Representatives from DC TMA presented the school with a $500 check and plaque Monday, recognizing the students’ efforts to improve from 80 percent to 96 percent usage among eligible teens.

The purpose of the challenge is to determine how many students driving to school are wearing seat belts (by conducting a counting survey during the fall), present these findings to the school and provide educational seminars, delivered by police officers, on the importance of safety while driving.
