Bike Sale Happening All Week, Shop Service Ongoing In Devon
This is the week to buy a refurbished bike and support job training for persons with disabilities, at Devon's Shops at Devereux.
RADNOR, PA — This is the week to get a deal on a refurbished bike and support a community program that employs people with disabilities. The sale is on Aug. 3-14 at the Bike Shop at the Shops at Devereux in Devon.
The Shops at Devereux campus, at 119 Old Lancaster Road, is open Monday through Friday during the sale, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoppers all week can save 10 percent on select models, masterfully refurbished by the Bike Shop team, said Kirk Smith, Program Administrator for The Shops at Devereux.
The Shops at Devereux are part of the Devereux Pennsylvania – Adult Services program, providing vocational training for persons with varied disabilities.

Linda Troeller, National Director of Procurement at Devereux purchased a bike from The Shops at Devereux in 2016. She said, "Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I told them what I was looking for and they showed me all of my options. I purchased a yellow Panasonic bike that is perfect for the beach. I love it and it is still in great shape!"
Troeller said, "By purchasing a bike at The Shops, I felt really good knowing I was supporting the adults in Devereux’s care."

The Bike Shop is part of a larger program of personal growth opportunities for adults over 21, with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional and or behavioral differences, and brain injuries, explained Smith.
"To ensure the health and safety of all, the individuals we serve will not be on-site, and our team is following stringent cleaning and sanitation and contact-free protocols," Smith said.
The Shops at Devereux program, founded in 1962, is a training center comprised of several small businesses that help those served by Devereux to learn marketable skills in a realistic work setting. Smith said the program allows participants to learn socially appropriate behaviors as they work toward employment within the local community.
Smith said The Shops at Devereux training also means participants earn a competitive paycheck, build social skills and self-esteem, and work toward gainful employment within the community.
The Bike Shop is a full-service bicycle shop, Smith said. "All repairs and services are managed by the individuals we serve and support."
The Bike Shop specializes in bicycles, from high-quality mountain bicycles to children's bikes. Repair services at the bike repair workshop in Devon include general repairs, tune-ups, detailing, tube and tire replacement, brake repair and replacement, and saddle replacement.
Smith said all refurbished bicycles undergo an extensive and rigorous inspection and repair process. "We have hundreds of bikes ready for sale – plus, we can deliver!"
All of the bikes are donated by local colleges and universities, local police departments and community members.
Smith explained "All revenue is reinvested into the program. The Shops also offers career development counseling, academic and tutorial services, and acts as a liaison to help businesses comply with the American Disabilities Act regulations."
Located in Devon, Pa., The Shops at Dervereux also an apparel shop that does custom embroidery and silkscreen, an auto mechanic service shop that does state inspections and brake and engine repair, as well as car washes, a floral shop, a greenhouse, and a packaging and assembly operation. Program participants also work in mobile work crews, providing outdoor and indoor cleaning services.
