Bridge Replacement Will Cause Months-Long Detour

Replacing the bridge over Little Darby Creek will close Darby Paoli Road staring Aug. 31, into December.

RADNOR TOWNSHIP — A bridge replacement will close Darby-Paoli Road between Brooke Road and Newtown Road beginning on Monday, Aug. 31, through December.

The bridge over Little Darby Creek will be replaced and traffic detoured over St. David’s Road, Route 252 (Newtown Street Road) and Goshen Road as work goes on 24-hours a day.

The Brooke Road bridge replacement is part of a project to replace two Darby Paoli Road bridges, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said.

Originally built circa 1905 and 1935, improvements were needed to enhance the safety and operations of the two bridges because of their age and state of deterioration. The bridges were inspected and found to be in fair condition. When the new bridges are completed, they will have 12-foot lanes and 4-foot shoulders.

Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone during the entire length of construction. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because slowdowns will occur.
