Electrical, Sanitation Issues Found At Closed Upper Merion Pool

An inspection of the recently closed Upper Merion Swim and Tennis Club (UMSTC) has uncovered electrical and other issues.

An inspection of the recently closed Upper Merion Swim and Tennis Club (UMSTC) has uncovered problems with the electrical system, sanitation, plumbing and security that, in some cases, violate federal standards, according to officials.

Officials in Upper Merion have announced Wednesday that the township has regained possession of the community swimming pool, located at 431 Valley Forge Road, with plans to re-open the site under new management.

In a statement released Thursday, the township said officials have taken action to address the many issues, with the goal of re-opening the pool as early as this weekend. But first, the Montgomery County Health Department has to grant the township a license following an inspection of the electrical system.

When re-opened, the pool will be operated by the Upper Merion Township Parks and Recreation Department.

“Ensuring that the pool is safe for public use is the township’s top priority,” read the township statement. “More information will be forthcoming regarding a reopening date, membership rates, amenities, operating hours, etc. Current UMTSC pool memberships will be honored for the remainder of the 2015 season.”
