Footlighters Theater Presents SPRING AWAKENING
Tony-Award winning musical opens the Berwyn community theater's 90th season
Footlighters Theater opens their 90th Season on Friday, September 14th with its production of SPRING AWAKENING. One of the most explosive Broadway musicals since Rent, Spring Awakening is an emotional coming-of-age story, a tale of passage from youth to adulthood. The captivating musical tells the story of a group of naive teenagers dealing with sexual awakening, self-discovery and youthful revolt. With only each other to rely upon, the teenagers struggle to discover their minds, bodies and individual identities as they battle a suppressive society of unjust adults.
Winner of 8 TONY Awards in 2007 (including Best Musical, Book and Score), Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s masterful ode to teen angst manages to perfectly capture the ecstatic highs and the miserable lows of confused, hormonal teenagers surrounded by repressed and restrictive adults. Though the musical feels thoroughly contemporary, taking full advantage of the primal force of rock-and-roll, it’s actually based on a then-scandalous 1892 German play of the same name by Frank Wedekind. The emotional and thought-provoking story, combined with a wonderful and haunting score, makes it an unforgettable experience.
Spring Awakening runs at Footlighters Theater from Friday, September 14 through Saturday, September 29th offering Friday and Saturday night shows at 8pm, and 2pm matinées on Saturdays and Sundays. Director Melody Dougherty has assembled an experienced and talented production team including Producer Danielle Lachalle, Assistant Director Cindy Mack, Chloe Sierka as choreographer, and featuring music directors Pat D’Amato & Richard Lewis.
