Nursing Homes Make Up A Third Of Delco Coronavirus Cases

As of Friday, the count has a reported 75 percent recovery rate and that nursing home cases account for a third of all cases.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Coronavirus cases in Delaware County are nearing 7,000, but new data shows a very high recovery rate and more than 27,000 negative test results.

According to data provided Friday, the county has a total of 6,894 cases. Upper Darby remains the county's hotspot for the virus, with 1,093 cases.

Yeadon Borough has the highest population percentage with the virus with 3.57 percent of its 11,471 population infected.

Women account for 56.96 percent of the county's cases and men make up 42.95 percent of cases. Gender has not been identified for 0.83 percent of cases.

  • 40 to 49 — 957

  • 60 to 69 — more than 1,000
  • 70 to 79 — 671
  • 80 and Over — more than 1,100

Nursing home residents account for 2,290 — or about 33 percent — of the county's total case count.

Fifty-two of the county's 62 nursing or long term care facilities have active coronavirus outbreaks.

Rose Valley and Rutledge borough's have the lowest case count of all municipalities with one each. Both boroughs have no deaths.

As of Friday, 664 people died from the virus. Middletown Township has seen the most virus-related deaths, with 136 reported Friday.

Of the 664 deaths reported Friday, 528 have been nursing home residents.

Thirteen municipalities have not had coronavirus deaths as of Friday.

The county has seen 27,019 negative coronavirus test results to date.

Friday's data shows the county has a 75 percent coronavirus recovery rate.
