Police: Man Posing as PECO, Township Employee Seen in Neighborhood

Radnor police say a homeowner was solicited by a man claiming to be from PECO and the township and seeking to gain entry into the house.

The Radnor Police Department is advising residents of an unidentified male suspect allegedly posing as a representative from either PECO or the township and attempting to gain entry into homes.

The alert is based off a reported encounter that occurred Wednesday, according to the police. A resident on the 100 block of Locust Grove Road told police that an older, white male, approximately 60 to 70 years old, with short white hair and wearing blue denim jeans, a blue t-shirt and dark-colorede brown vest came to his door.

The homeowner said the man stated either he was from PECO or Radnor Township and asked the homeowner if they had recently installed any lighting in the residence.

After the resident said that there had been no work performed on the house, the unknown man stated that he did not have his paperwork but was sure he had to check the residence.

The man wore an ID badge of some kind, police say. According to the report, the homeowner allowed the man to enter the home and escorted him to the basement to check the electrical box.

After checking the box, the man left and was last seen operating an older, burgundy-colored SUV, possibly a Chevrolet.

The homeowner also stated that the vest that the man was wearing had pins on it and that he resembled that of a Vietnam veteran. PECO Energy was contacted and had no representatives on Locust Grove Road and has no information as to the identity of the man.

The Radnor Police Department reminds all residents that unknown persons or persons posing as contractors should never be permitted into the residence under any pretense. In these situations, the persons entering the residence may be in the process of casing for a burglary or robbery.

Radnor Township representatives will always display and offer photo identification.
