Two Raccoons Test Positive For Rabies in Radnor
Two raccoons were killed by dogs in Radnor last week- and both tested positive for rabies. Authorities have tips for staying safe

Twice last week, Radnor Township Police received reports of raccoons that tested positive for rabies.
According to the police, a report September 16 stated that their dog had killed a raccoon on their property; the dead raccoon tested positive for rabies
. Two days later, police said, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture reported that a second raccoon in Radnor Township had tested positive for rabies, once again after it had been killed by a dog.

Radnor Township’s Ordinance Enforcement Officer and Township Health Officer released a series of tips for how to prevent coming into contact with such an animal:
· Enjoy wildlife from a safe distance

· Do not approach a stray animal
· Call 911 for assistance, where an animal appears injured or sick do not approach or attempt to handle the animal.
· Keep rabies vaccinations up to date for all cats and dogs or other pets requiring rabies vaccinations.
· If your pet is bitten by a wild animal, seek veterinary assistance immediately. Even if the pet is current with the required rabies vaccination.
· Keep tight fitting lids on garbage cans and don’t leave pet food outside overnight.
· If you are bitten or scratched by a wild animal, immediately wash the wound with soap and water for at least five minutes and get medical help at once.
