Radnor Police Officer Finds Apparent Copper Theft In Progress

A Radnor Police officer wondered about a man loading a truck at an address that had seen a recent theft, so he checked into it.

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — Radnor Township Police reported catching a man they say was in the act of stealing thousands of dollars worth of copper piping from a Wayne home Friday night.

Radnor Township Police Officer Kyle Hand was on patrol when he saw a man loading a truck with copper piping in the 200 block of Strafford Avenue, in Wayne. Police said the property was the target of a recent theft and vandalism, so the officer approached the man loading the truck. The man could not give explain his reason for being at the property and gave officers false identification, according to a police report.

He was identified as Stephen J. Feathers, 43, of Elverson Borough, according to police, who said Chester County had issued a warrant for the man's arrest.

Radnor Township Police Feathers is charged with Burglary, Theft by Unlawful Taking, Criminal Trespass, False Identification to Law Enforcement and Drug Violations.

"The theft of copper has been on the rise over the last few years given the recyclable value," said Christopher B. Flanagan, Radnor Township Superintendent of Police.

"Officer Hand’s investigation ... is just one example of how Radnor officers are always on the lookout to protect our residents and their property," added Flanagan.

He was arraigned via video before Judge Vincent D. Gallagher Jr. and remanded to George Hill Correctional Facility, according to police reports.
