Champion Devon Prep Baseball Team Tours Capital, Meets Gov Wolf

After The Tide won the PIAA Class 2A championship in June, State Rep. Melissa Shusterman took them to meet Gov. Tom Wolf in Harrisburg.

DEVON, PA — Devon Preparatory School's championship winning baseball team got a trip to Harrisburg recently where they toured the capital and met with Gov. tom Wolf.

State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester/Montgomery, invited the team to the House chamber in the Pennsylvania Capitol on Tuesday, Nov. 19 to congratulate them on their PIAA Class 2A championship win.

Wolf also personally congratulated the team during their visit.

The Tide won the PIAA Class 2A baseball championship by defeating Serra Catholic High School, 3-2, in June in State College. After allowing two runs in the first inning, Devon Prep held Serra Catholic scoreless for the remainder of the game.

In the biggest game of the season, The Tide capped its state championship season with a come-from-behind victory, clinching the program’s first state title since 2014 by scoring the game’s final three runs.

"I’m extremely proud of Devon Prep’s baseball team and I congratulate them on earning their second state title," Shusterman said. "I applaud their determination and impressive teamwork that led them here today. Their resilience and persistence on the field is truly admirable."
